Thanks to Harry Slutter for sponsoring the Lie-Nielsen handtool show. There were a good-sized crowd and marvelously constructed handtools. All of this and to be surrounded by many, many feet of select lumber – pure heaven. Thank you, Harry.

I second that. I was there Saturday and spent most of the day there chatting with current members and new perspective members. It was a great event. Even made a couple of nice purchases from L-N and Urban. Looking forward to using both!
    My thanks to Harry.

My fishtail chisel should be waiting for me when I get home!

Are we supposed to feel sorry for you, Mike? Are you seeking sympathy for not having a broad collection of L-N tools? Or do you believe your frugality will impress us? Either way, it ain’t working! We supporters of Lie-Niel$en are a proud bunch ready to shell out another week’s pay for another fine tool.
Just because Ben’s son will be limited to state schools for the advance of his father’s tool collection is secondary to the fact that Ben will own that chisel for the rest of his life. So enjoy your catalog. (And please keep it away from me. My wife won’t let me look at it anymore.)

See Joe, you miss what I can do with the catalog. You have to carry the tool around to show it off while I can show colored pictures of the tool from a pretty book. I am thinking of springing for one of the calendars. Maybe I can find last years at a bargain price.

Actually, I think he sells those for more. He pushes them off as limited edition collector items.

In fairness, my son will have that chisel his whole life too.

I can’t post my saying here (not proper) but it leads in that direction, Ben. We can spend our money on all sorts of things – many that pass from use and are quickly forgotten. (i.e. a dinner out, though wonderful, may cost $75 for a couple.) But many of us quibble about spending good money on a beautiful tool that will perform exceptionally and typically be handed down. It may take some time to raise all the money for a quality tool, but I have stopped saying, it’s not worth it.
Another view on the matter, our good friend, Charlie, pointed out: Life is short – enjoy it.
