have a project in mind that should look pretty attractive when built from redwood lumber. As most of you know, I work small scale. I have a few boards that just might carry me through, but would hate to run out given that redwood is scarce. I was going to write scarcer than an honest politician, but I know I’ll get e-blasted with names of reputable folks running government both big and small.
Seriously, if you have a decent board (or two) that you absolutely will never use, I’ll offer top dollar to take it off your hands. I might mention that the lumber I have was purchased at a couple of different lumberyards on Long Island about 30 years ago. It’s all clear, 4/4, kiln dried and mostly rift cut.
If no offers, my backup plan will be to mix (redwood frame, floating pine panel maybe?) redwood with Sitka spruce, cedar or pine.
Best to all.

I don’t wan to get your hopes up, but I may still have a short – 4 foot x 7″w – board just as you described. It’s not that I will absolutely never use it, but rather, I would enjoy knowing it became part of a wonderful piece. It too should be beautifully straight grained, quartered stock. I have to look for it in my pile.
Considering the alternates, I have found that selecting nice heartwood cedar could provide a close match. Maybe too close yet not close enough. If you know what I mean. I think the Sitka spruce would be the perfect contrast. But that’s just my opinion.
I will look for the redwood and let you know if I still have it. If so, I will bring it to the BBQ at the June meeting. Were you planning on going? We’re having a tool swap, you know! (Shameless plug.)

Great news if you do have that board. And thanks for your input on what woods might complement each other for my “wonderful” (hopefully) project. I do like Sitka spruce and have used a lot of boards (cut offs) acquired from Steinway Piano.
The first Wednesday of each month I am, at my wife’s insistence, enrolled in a cooking class. So we’ll have to arrange for a pick up if you still have it. Otherwise, I’ll check my wood piles for spruce!

Sorry I took so long to get back to you but if you saw my garage, you’d understand why.
I do have a couple short boards for you. They are about 3-4 ft long each. There is a knot in each of them but there is still a fair amount of usable material. It’s yours if you want it.
