The club has an opportunity to host Gary Rogowski some time in late March. He will be in the area promoting his new book and offered to speak to the club if we wanted.
The exact date and cost have not yet been determined. First, we would like to know if there is any interest. We may need to rent the Barn for an off day/evening to accommodate him.
For those of you who do not know Gary, he has been a contributing editor to Fine Woodworking for many years. He has authored several books and DVDs mostly for Tauntan Press and he is the founder and Director of the Northwest Woodworking Studio in Portland, OR. since 1997.
On a personal note, Gary’s woodwork and his writings are among my very favorite. His approach is very straightforward and simple but elegant. I think this is another great opportunity to get such a talent in to speak with us.
This is very time sensitive, so if you are at all interested and think this is something we should pursue, please let us know here with a quick post or shoot me an email. We’ll ask for your commitment if there proves to be enough interest.
    Thanks!

Here is a short bio from Gary. It’s in MS Word format. Hopefully you can open it. Also a copy of the book cover and a link with book summary.

This should be , know will be, a great session. The Board, Corey in particular, is working very hard to set this up. We will fill in the gaps, date, time, location, etc. as soon as possible. Go to The http://www.northwestwoodworkers.com website to see some of Gary’s work.
Also, note the picture of the Stanley/Bailey transitional plane,a beautiful tool.
This is a great opportunity for our club.

I’m in the works with getting the barn secured. The date that Gary can come would be March 27th Tuesday. The historical society said that day is open. So I’m planning on making it a typical meeting time of 7pm – 9pm. This way everyone can attend to see Gary.

Also besides Gary, I’m working with Phil Lowe to come and do a similar workshop as we did with Jeff miller in the months of September OR October. Those dates I still have to find out for the barn. But I would like it to be Friday night, Saturday all day, & Sunday all day. This way there is ample time to get hands on with the workshop.

Also I’m working with Andrew Hunter of possibly doing the meeting topic for the months of September OR October. I’m thinking he would talk about Japanese joinery and tools since that is what he works with.

    Anyone else interested?
Right now we have only about a dozen members relating interest. I hope there are of more than the handful of you reading the forums. Please let us know!
March 27th, 7:00 PM at the Brush Barn (our regular meeting place). Minimal cost. This will be in addition to our regularly scheduled meetings for March and April.

Again, please post here or email me. Thanks!

You mean we just might get to see the elusive CJ again? Folks, that just might be better than a visit from Gary Rogowski!

Count me in too. Just for the chance to meet this Charlie fellow I’ve heard so much about. I hear he sleeps in a secret compartment.

I have heard that CJ was put together from spare parts from a Mash unit during the Korean police action. Just a rumor and I have never seen any evidence but the rumor will not go away. He disappears now and again for maintenance, that is to be oiled and the nuts and bolts tightened. Just saying.

I’ve heard tale that he may have a screw loose. But you say he gets oiled and has his nuts tightened??? He truly is an extraordinary creature.
