Bill, I have a leather smock that I wear when I glue or turn. Works great (when I remember to use it!) Just be careful with the string, tighten it in the back, no bow in front!

C’mom, how good could the guy be? I looked at all his furniture and there’s not one secret compartment!! As for his lemon grove, the highway department ran a road through his property and they had to move the house a few miles away to a citrus grove. The house is on the National register of historic places and now a museum…My friend has a Maloof desk, had it shipped from New Mexico when his Uncle passed away and willed it to him. Long Island weather being what it is, he couldn’t open the drawer. Humidity stuck it tight. He asked if I could open it for him. I said wait for winter. He said he really wanted it open so I told him sure, but you’ll have to leave the room and pay no attention the splintering noises. He laughed and waited for Winter. It’s now waxed and the drawer is always kept slightly ajar..

The square model Hestone and Anderstone was discontinued immediately as they only worked in Flinstones cartoons. In Bedrock, Twist, twist… Ya gotta know your Flinstones to get that joke…

I wouldn’t be able to work with it. I know people that do and they work it outside…

It’s a very hard wood to work. It will dull anything it touches, tools will need constant sharpening. Pilot holes are a must. Careful of the dust as well, people can be highly allergic or can become allergic while working with it. Careful of splinters as well, they can become infected. Gluing can be an issue as well, it has to be chemically cleaned before gluing to remote the oils temporarily so it can set.

Perhaps a little more $ to the historical society each month will help keep the lathe at the barn? Of course, that means more $ out of the club account.

Yeah, I try never to move the blade from 90 degrees, I just keep it set to 90 and make jigs to meet whatever angle I’m looking for.
