Beautiful shop. But I will never live in the state of Florida with the heat and humidity. I will have a shop that big someday.

That is Izzy Swan. He is a genius in the shop. All his videos are great and interesting.

I did some research for a Bryd head for my Rockwell Delta 37-315 jointer and from Oella saw and Tool with bearings it would be $499.49. That includes shipping. It was $16.96 cheaper than MyWoodCutters. I checked out Grizzly for a spiral cutterhead and wasn’t sure which one to get as they don’t really have detailed specs or a list of all the machines they work on. Simply googling Rockwell 37-315 bryd head Oella Saw came up the best bang for your buck and they have outstanding customer service. I plan on ordering one once things calm down and I go back to classes. The knives I have in there now really should be sharpened but I do not want to deal with resetting them with the jointer pal and stuff. Right now if its important I go back to my bench and give a swipe or two with a handplane to clean up any tearout of simply glue it up as it won’t be seen.

I’m doing pretty fine in the shop. Got 3 built ins, 2 barn doors, dining table, coffee table, queen bed frame, large window bench seat, and of course a few guitar pick stools to complete. I also picked up a beast of a 5hp SawStop for my safety and members/students taking classes at my shop. But unfortunate with this virus only one member was able to try it out a day after assembling the saw. I also picked up a large Delta lathe from Mike J. and a JET edge sander. I do have to say I really miss offering classes and seeing members come into the shop so I have someone to talk to while working. I could only talk to myself for so long and listen to music. Being there by myself has given me the opportunity to really see what needs to be improved on in my shop as layout and storage. As well as tools or hardware that I really don’t need anymore.

What changes have you all seen working in your shops now that you would like to change?

Lets all hope we beat this virus and return to our normal lives where we can all see each other at the monthly meetings and get togethers.

I would say for me I have a few favorites:

Maple because of its hardness and clean, bright look. It also can be stained just about any color

Cherry because of how it ages like a fine wine and easy to work with both power and hand tools

Walnut because I’ve never seen a disappointed pieces of walnut. Putting a natural finish (Rubio Monocoat) on top brings the wood to life

White oak, specifically quartersawn white oak because I always had an appreciation for Stickley furniture and how the rays pop when stained

White Ash because it makes the perfect workbench material as its cheaper and super strong. Plus it looks great with any stain or wire wheeeled

I think we could attract more younger people if we had a working up to date YouTube page and even Instagram (both we do have already). I wouldn’t mind taking care of the Instagram page as I do my own for CT woodwork successfully. We have a decent video camera and stand and Mike Daum did the video recording at Jeff Millers workshop.

I contacted Tamar again if she would be interested in a Saturday or Sunday workshop on making jigs such as the ones in her YouTube videos. Maybe she can show the shooting boards with attachments, tablesaw jig for dovetails, crosscut sled, etc. She seems to make it very easy to do by breaking it down in multiple steps.

Just saw this video Tamar did on this really cool joint.
Maybe a great joint to do a demo on?

Now that we got the ideas flowing I will contact her again about maybe doing a saturday or sunday workshop making jigs (like a shooting board). We haven’t had a workshop in a while and I think we would have quite a few members interested. I also agree that a demo on doing video recording properly would be great too. It could benefit her and our group as we also have a YouTube page but nothing much on that has happened recently.

I wouldn’t mind hosting a event at the shop for a limited amount of people. I got enough benches(7) in the shop and the tools to make a jig or do a live demonstration.

What topics should I ask her if she can do a presentation/seminar/workshop on a Saturday or Sunday?

I contacted Tamar from 3×3 Custom about coming to our club one night to do a presentation but unfortunately she can’t do weeknights as she has lots of things to do with her children during the week. If we can get her to come on a weekend it could be possible. What do we all think about a weekend?
