Back by popular demand, we are holding the plane shaving contest tomorrow at the July round robin. It will not be so much a contest (no awards at this time) as a “try out” for those who want to give this a shot without the pressure of competing. I will also be demonstrating how to tune up a hand plane and set it up for proper performance. I understand there will also be demos on how to sharpen your blades and raise the performance level so you can put your hand planes into everyday use.
So I encourage everyone to bring in your planes (preferable a #4, smoother – approx. 2″ wide) and give it a try. I will have a micrometer on hand so you can quantify the results of your efforts. If you would like, bring in your plane that may need some tuning and we’ll try our best to get it singing.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!

This should be fun. Daryl R will be on hand with his Japanese plane he bought in Okinowa at a garage sale. He had a yen for it. Bob U probably will bring his violin plane he swears was owned by Stadivatius. Maybe, Charlie Stradivarius of Hoboken. Mike D will forget his plane and will borrow one. The Cabinetmakers should be out in force. The Carvers will wonder what the fuss is about. The Turners will yawn and make another bowl.

    I’m sorry I missed it!
