Disabled Vet needs help

I got a call from an elderly disabled Korean War veteran this morning asking for help with a small project to help him out. He has extreme vision issues and needs to have what sounds to me like a lap desk either built or modified so that he can bring things to within 10 inches of his eye. I myself cannot help him at this time, but if you or anyone else could be of assistance, it would be most helpful.
