As some of you already know we will be holding the plane shaving competition at our annual exhibit again this year. (Ok, so I like my hand plane and what it can do, get over it.) But these guys on this link are something else. A couple years back, myself and a few other members took a ride into Brooklyn to this same shop to watch the first of these similar competition. Structured after the traditional Japanese competition, this event is no slouch. I’m sorry I missed it this year. But check out this link. The winners both yielded an 8 micron shaving! That’s equates to .00031″ or about 1/10th the thickness of a sheet of copy paper!!! I think I need to start sharpening now.

When I spoke with Yann Giguere and Andrew Hunter, they both seemed willing to give a talk at meeting or for a weekend presentation. Is this something any of you might be interested in? We can let Corey and Bill L. know and try to set it up.
