    Hi Everyone,

I am seeking input from other people before I start building an exciting, custom project this week (or next week at the very latest). It will be a mobile cart that will house ALL of my woodworking machines (table saw, miter saw, band saw, scroll saw, mini table saw, drill press, 13″ thickness planner, 8″ jointer, 21″ midi lathe, router table, oscillating spindle sander, (2) combo belt/disk sanders, (3) bench grinders, buffing and polishing wheels, an air compressor, and several other machines. In addition, it will have a self-contained 1,100 CFM dust collector, to which all of the machines will be permanently attached and using radio-controlled iVac blast gates.

The cart will measure approximately 4′ wide x 8′ long, and approximately 38″ high. It will have a top shelf, middle shelf, and a bottom shelf, along with plenty of pull-out drawers for tool and accessory storage, and several flip-up outfeed tables. Since the entire cart will weigh approximately 1,500 pounds, it will be fully-motorized using two high-torque motors and a joystick controller to “drive” it out of, and back into, my workshop, which is the one-car garage in my home. All of the machines are at my home now as is the two motors and joystick.

Although I have been planning this build for about 6 months, I want to consult first with some of our most experienced members specifically regarding material selection (2×4’s vs. 4×4’s) and the best joinery methods (deck screws, carriage bolts, or traditional joinery techniques.

Attached is a rendition that I made on my computer. It is not complete, but shows my general concept quite clearly. Ideally, I would love to have someone come to my house in Oceanside to see my workshop and discuss my plans for about an hour or two so that I have the benefit of their woodworking experience. I would be glad to treat you to a very nice lunch or dinner in appreciation for your time.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to share your knowledge and expertise with me for this build.

Thank you very much, in advance.

    Regards,
    Kevin Fogel

P.S. For anyone that isn’t able to come to my home/workshop in Oceanside, I would be glad to travel any place on Long Island to meet with them at their location. Thank you in advance for your interest in helping to guide me in this exciting project! 🙂
